Theme of the Week: New Beginnings

Every great song starts somewhere.

This week’s songwriting theme is New Beginnings. It’s a topic that’s full of possibility and can mean something different to every songwriter.

A new beginning could be starting a new school, moving to a new home, meeting someone new, overcoming a challenge, or simply deciding to see the world differently. Sometimes, new beginnings are exciting. Other times, they’re uncertain. The best songs often come from exploring what it means to you.

Over the next week, we encourage our Songwriters Club members to keep their notebooks close by. If you want to come prepared, rather than sitting down and trying to write an entire song, simply collect ideas as they come to you.

Write down anything that catches your attention. A funny conversation you overhear. A quote you love. A line from a book or magazine. A thought that pops into your head while you’re walking to school. A phrase from a movie, or something someone says that makes you stop and think.

Songwriters are always collecting ideas. You never know which little note or sentence will become the lyric that inspires your next song.

Our very first Songwriters Club session is this Saturday, 1 August, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
