Going away these school holidays? No instrument? No problem. You can still make real progress using things you’ve probably already got with you.

Here are 3 easy ways to stay musical these school holidays, even if you couldn’t pack your instrument.

1. Listen to new music

Holidays are the perfect time to refresh your ears and get inspired again. If you’re travelling, take your headphones and build a “new music” playlist before you go. Download it so you can listen offline, especially handy for flights, road trips, or downtime.

Try mixing in:

  • styles you don’t normally listen to
  • instrumental tracks
  • artists your teacher recommends

Sometimes the best musical growth happens just from listening differently.

2. Music theory games on your Tablet/Phone

If you’ve got an iPad with you, you’ve basically got a portable practice tool. Apps like Staff Wars or Tenuto turn theory into a game and you might be surprised how much improves without it feeling like study.

Even a few short sessions over the holidays can mean you come back to lessons feeling sharper than before.

3. Start writing your own music

All you need is a notebook. Write down anything interesting you see, hear, or feel while you’re away and it could become lyrics later on.

Travelling is full of inspiration:

  • conversations
  • new places
  • funny moments
  • little observations you’d normally forget

You don’t need to turn it into a full song right now, just collect ideas.

Even without your instrument, you can still stay connected to music in small, creative ways. Sometimes, a break from routine is exactly what sparks your next big musical breakthrough.

We look forward to seeing all our wonderful students back in the studio refreshed in Term 3!
